IEQAS Background

The Irish External Quality Assessment Scheme CLG is the national not for profit Independent External Quality Assessment (EQA) provider with over 40 years of experience. It was established in 1981 to objectively assess analytical performance in laboratory medicine and primary care in Ireland.

Our Objectives

  • To operate a national not-for-profit professional association that independently assesses and seeks to improve the quality of patient sample testing in Ireland
  • Allow our members to compare their assay(s) performance against other Irish laboratories to ensure high-quality laboratory service testing in Ireland for patients
  • To offer independent professional EQA advice and guidance to laboratory services and collaborate with initiatives focused on improvement of analysis in laboratory medicine 
  • To promote learning and development through our schemes and our Annual Conference
  • To liaise with regulatory authorities and medical product suppliers relating to EQA matters

IEQAS is overseen by the Board of Directors, appointed by the Members of IEQAS CLG

A Steering Committee is appointed by the Directors to further advise on scientific matters.
Members of IEQAS CLG include Directors, steering committee members, specialist advisors, and other clinical specialist laboratory personnel who support the objectives of the Company, including members from the Irish Associated Professional Bodies.
Associate members of IEQAS CLG are hospital laboratories and other testing sites that subscribe to one or more EQA schemes.
